Frequently Asked Questions

Is it really free?

Yes, you can use the tool for free without creating an account or providing payment details. There are no watermarks on your extracted text. Processing may still depend on available OCR service quotas and browser capabilities.

Is my image uploaded to a server?

Your image may be sent to our OCR service for processing. If the server OCR quota is unavailable or exhausted, the tool can switch to Tesseract.js in your browser. We do not permanently store images submitted for OCR. The processing method depends on service availability.

Which languages does it support?

The tool supports more than 40 languages, including English, Hindi, Urdu, Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati, Arabic, Persian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Spanish, French, and German. If an image contains text in multiple languages, you can select each language before running OCR.

Can I edit the extracted text?

Yes. You can edit the extracted text directly in the result area, correct spelling, add or remove lines, and make other changes. When you're done, copy the text or download it as a .txt file.

Which image formats are supported? Can I use a PDF?

Supported image formats include JPG, JPEG, PNG, WEBP, AVIF, BMP, GIF, and TIFF. You can also extract text from screenshots, camera photos, scanned pages, and handwritten notes. This tool doesn't accept PDF files directly. To extract text from a PDF, use our PDF to Text tool.

Can I process multiple images at once?

Yes. You can select multiple images in one go, including 50 or more depending on your device and browser. On Windows, hold Ctrl or Shift while selecting files. Images are processed one by one, with a separate result for each image.

Can it read handwriting?

It can recognize some handwriting, especially when the writing is clear and easy to read. Cursive, faint, or messy handwriting may produce errors. Try cropping the image, adjusting its brightness or contrast, or sharpening it before running OCR.

Do I need to sign up?

No. You can use the tool without creating an account or providing an email address. Just add an image and extract its text.

What does the OCR confidence score mean?

The confidence score estimates how certain the OCR system is about recognizing a word. A higher score indicates greater confidence, while a lower score means the word may need checking. Use the confidence highlights to find words that may have been read incorrectly and compare them with the original image.
